Kindness Rocks, Yolo Style!

Kindness Rocks is the name of a national effort to spread happiness and kindness throughout your community by simply painting a happy rock or writing an inspirational message on a rock. After sealing your rock, you venture forth into your neighborhood and hide it in plain sight for someone to find.

There are some happy stories. A gentleman found a rock in front of my studio and stopped by to let us know that he was having a bad day and the rock inspired him. The rock had "You are strong. You've got this" painted on it. A woman found an inspirational rock in front of her workplace as she was coming back after her last round of chemo from cancer. She found strength from the unexpected find and decided to keep her rock as inspiration instead of re-hiding it.

There are some avid rock painters, hiders, and finders in Yolo County. There are some exceptional artists (maybe a First Friday event showing all the artwork rocks is needed?), some great poets, and some happy colors painted by the toddlers at the rock painting party at KLJ Studios last weekend.

As you can see, not only can you help encourage people with your rocks, but you can make some new friends, too! Check out Yolo Rocks on Facebook.

P.S. As you can see from the photos, it doesn't hurt to wear an apron or old clothes when you paint because sometimes the enthusiasm is hard to contain!
