Young mom, Kelly, was one of our Mother's Day winners from our special live drawing last May. She finally had time to stop by to pose for her photos and brought all her girls. Baby Ellie, Middle sis Lilah, and Big Sister Kaitlyn enjoyed the fuss and posed as if they do it every day, while big brother stood by patiently in the wings and jumped in to help as needed.

Kelly is also special in another way. She has a rare lung disease called LAM or Lymphangioleiomyomatosis. LAM is so rare that it is believed that fewer than 2,000 women are known to have the disease today. This disease strikes women during the prime of their lives and causes shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing, abnormal cell growth, possible tumors and loss of lung function. (This is a simple description of LAM, it actually is very complicated and has many undesirable side effects.)

June was LAM awareness month and Kelly wanted people to know about this rare disease and liked the idea of bringing it to light by sharing information about it in this post.

This is a sweet family and it was a pleasure to work with them. We wish them all the best, especially Kelly, who has faced this aspect of her life with the toughness and intelligence needed. Thank you for educating us about this very rare disease and know we are thinking about you and your family.
